What Is Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination in the workplace. There are two types of sexual harassment claims. Quid pro quo claims are based on cases in which the victim’s superior requests a sexual relationship with the victim in exchange for favors (e.g., raises) or the withholding of punishment (e.g., permanent dismissal). Hostile work environment claims are based on cases in which a colleague or superior creates an intimidating or hostile work environment by telling sexual jokes, displaying sexual photographs, or by making sexual comments or threats.
