Nursing Home Employee Allegedly Punches 81-Year-Old Resident

Nursing Home Employee Allegedly Punches 81-Year-Old Resident – The nursing home industry is making the news again and the latest story is evidence of a bigger problem: Nursing homes being understaffed for business profit leads to bad care, injuries, and death.

The latest case involves a nursing home in Rochester, New York where a staff member allegedly punched an 81-year-old man in the face, causing a black eye.  The nursing home resident, Efrain Arroyo, 81, was transported to the hospital for his injuries.  Can you imagine how this will affect him emotionally?

This latest incident of a nursing home staff member allegedly punching an elderly resident is usually the product of poor background screening of staff, forcing staff to work short handed or work longer hours to make up for the lack of manpower.  This is no defense for guilty staff workers abusing our elderly residents because this type of conduct is criminal.  Rather, this latest incident is the symptom of a disease:  Nursing home operators putting profit over people.
